Calendarios 2011 Ritmo en los Barrios/2011 Calendars Rhythm in the Barrios

Nuestros amigos de Ritmo en los Barrios tienen un programa de educación musical en Granada.  Para apoyar el programa, ofrecen en venta calendarios fotográficos de 2011 que muestran sus alumnos y actividades.  Se puede regalar a tus amigos o familia y guardar en casa o en oficina.

Our friends at Rhythm in the Barrios have a music education program in Granada.  To support their program they are selling 2011 calendars with photography of students and activities.  They can be gifts for your friends and family, to display at home or office.

Throughout the past months we have been busy and are proud to announce these updates from Pittsburgh, Granada, and the coffee cooperative El Porvenir!

Durante los meses pasados hicimos muchas actividades y tenemos el orgullo de anunciar estas noticias desde Pittsburgh, Granada, y...la cooperativa de café El Porvenir!


This year we had the opportunity of doing art workshops with a group of artists at El Porvenir, a coffee cooperative located in the mountains between the cities of León and Chinandega. Eight volunteers visited for about a week, speaking with the artists about their work and shared materials so that they can continue working and selling their art and craftwork. They also brought children's art materials and had drawing and painting classes with the kids, who made some beautiful artwork (more photos coming soon).

Este año tuvimos la oportunidad de hacer talleres de arte con un grupo de artistas de El Porvenir, una cooperativa de café ubicada en las montañas entre las ciudades de León y Chinandega. Ocho voluntarios visitaron por una semana, hablando con los artistas sobre sus obras y compartieron materiales para que los artístas pudieron continuar trabajando y vendiendo sus obras y artesanía. También trajeron materiales de arte para los niñ@s y tuvieron clases de dibujar y pintar, y los chaval@s hicieron obras muy bonitas (más fotos siguen pronto).


In Granada we continued our art activities at Escuelita Yo Puedo and Quinta Los Chavalos, with the help of our volunteers from Building New Hope and Alissa Levy, an elementary school teacher from New York. Alissa taught English classes, including drawing activities to illustrate her lessons in English.

In August, the teachers and students of Escuelita Yo Puedo took a field trip to León to learn about the city's culture.

En Granada continuamos con nuestras actividades de arte en la Escuelita Yo Puedo y Quinta Los Chavalos con la ayuda de voluntarias de Building New Hope y Alissa Levy, una maestra de escuela primaria en Nueva York. Alissa enseñó clases de inglés, incluyendo actividades de dibujo para ilustrar las lecciones de inglés.

En agosto, los maestr@s y alumn@s de Escuelita Yo Puedo viajaron a León para conocer la ciudad y su cultura.

Gracias a todos por el apoyo! Por eso podemos ofrecer estas actividades a nuestros alumn@s!

First regional meeting for music teachers

Our friends in the organization Rhythm in the Barrios, along with Music in the Barrios, have prepared a conference this weekend to strengthen the music education community in Nicarauga, and to offer "pedagogical workshops and instructor resources for teaching in the classroom".
